The Innovative K-12 Learning Models in Georgia project—a statewide partnership between the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) and the Institute for Self-Directed Learning (ISDL)—invites districts to reimagine what’s possible in Georgia’s public schools.
The goal of this initiative is to design new public school models that meet the needs of today’s families and students. Districts selected to be part of this project will design, prototype, and launch learner-centered models that deepen engagement, strengthen community connection, expand enrollment opportunities, and prepare every student to be future-ready—for the workforce, for citizenship, and for thriving local economies.
Districts accepted into the 2026 cohort will engage in a three-year journey:
- Year 1: Design and Alignment – Build vision, design your model, and secure stakeholder support.
- Year 2: Pilot and Build-Out – Prototype your design, gather feedback, and refine your model.
- Year 3: Launch and Scale – Implement your new learning model and share lessons statewide.

To apply for selection as a participating district, complete and submit this form in its entirety by Friday, January 30.
Districts that submit the application before the deadline can request feedback and have the opportunity to resubmit.
Questions about the application and/or the project can be directed to Susan Walker (susan.walker@doe.k12.ga.us) and Caleb Collier (caleb@selfdirect.school).
